Pinewood Derby Car

Project Background

I built this Pinewood Derby car to represent the marketing agency I worked for in a charity fundraising event. I shaped the wooden body by hand with a Dremel tool and fashioned the details from plastic styrene and metal rod. Graphics were designed in Adobe Illustrator, then printed and applied to the body.
The finished car.
The rough, basic shape.
Early mock up testing wheel location and ground clearance.
The definitive shape comes together. I cut the pinewood block using a jig saw, then refined and smoothed it out with a Dremel tool and sandpaper.
Lead weights are needed to give the car some speed in the race. I milled out a section in the center of the body to make room for the weights, then sealed them in with bondo. More sanding and smoothing was needed after this.
Adding details and small parts fashioned from plastic bits and metal rod.
The main graphic, designed in Adobe Illustrator and bearing the name of the agency I worked for.
